Framework for Evaluation

An Introduction to the Theoretical Framework for Evaluations
at the Center for Family Research

Because the mission of the Center for Family research includes a focus specifically on the context of the family, our evaluation efforts include the use of a systems-based framework to explain how families influence program outcomes. A systems-based framework does not focus on one individual alone but instead studies the interdependence or interrelatedness between groups. Family is seen as one of the important groups included in the CFR evaluation efforts. This systems-based evaluative framework is intended to honor the values of the interacting systems including the host agency, the family/clients, and even the funders all in the same study.
The CFR believes that families affect the results of just about every program that provides services to children. Whether the goals of a given program involve school achievement, health, mental health, or general well-being, families do matter. Family members influence the motivations and behaviors of program participants, and they also influence program providers. Interestingly, sometimes they even influence the agencies that house these programs, as well as the funders that provide financial support for them.
Simply put, the CFR evaluation framework tries to look at how all the different groups are tied into a program and how these groups influence and impact the outcome of the program.
